21st Cent. Class: Financial Literacy

Specials: PE

Misc:

*FIELD TRIP TO THE DENVER ZOO ON NOVEMBER 15th!

*Design Thinking Challenge: Special Olympics

Purpose: Specifically foster students' developing sense of empathy, and overall to learn about design thinking. Students will learn to immerse themselves in learning from experts.

- The students interviewed two local Special Olympians (as pictured below) to continue empathizing to their needs and know what their struggles are and how they overcame them

- They then met with the parents of those two Special Olympians so they can continue their questions

- After our interviewing is complete, we will synthesize information to develop a point of view statement and generate potential ideas

*Research & Reasoning: The students have been finalizing their ideas for their genius hour projects - now they will start researching on the topic they've chosen

- We will go over various ways to research and the reasoning behind the methods this week

Ms. Morgan's Math:

*Math's Mate Term 2 Sheet 4 is due Friday

Chapter 5: Add & Subtract Decimals

*Review for Test - Monday

*No Math on Tuesday - Field Trip

*STAR Math - Wednesday

*Review for Test - Thursday

*Test Day! - Friday

Reading:

Unit 5 Vocabulary Test will be on November 16th

*Practice activities are in their Flocabulary site

Novel Studies

*We will continue finishing our novels - most students are already done reading their second novel!

- The students had a choice on which book to read, some may be easier than others, but all skills the students will be working on will be a challenging skill for them based on their STAR data

- Student summative projects for their chosen novel (that must include their novel's comprehension skill) will be due on November 22nd!

Writing:

*DLI Week 8 practice (Comma Review & Appositives) will be due on Monday - November 14th

- A new DLI Week 9 will be given to the students on Wednesday - Due Monday - November 21st

- DLI Quick Write 8 will be due Wednesday, November 16th

BOY Writing Anchors

*Now that we've gone over multiple writing techniques, we will be pulling out the students Beginning of the Year Writing Anchors and continue editing and revising those papers this week

- Most students are done editing and revising so now their focus will be working on adding their personal writing goal into their final draft

- Once students have revised and edited their writing they will then meet with 3 writing buddies to edit and revise each other's work

Science:

*Students will being their Earth Systems Unit with Mr. Orlowski this week
