21st Cent. Class: Sustainable

Specials:

Monday-Wednesday: STEAM

Thursday & Friday: Art

Misc:

*Design Thinking Challenge: Special Olympics

Purpose: Specifically foster students' developing sense of empathy, and overall to learn about design thinking. Students will learn to immerse themselves in learning from experts.

Math:

*Math's Mate Term 1 Sheet 7 is due Friday

Chapter 3: DIVIDE BY A ONE-DIGIT DIVISOR

*Check My Progress: Mini - quiz on Monday

*Placing the 1st digit in division

*Quotients with zeros

*Interpreting the Remainder

*Problem Solving Day is Friday!

Reading:

*Unit 3 Vocabulary Test will be on October 5th

- Practice activities are in their Flocabulary site

*We have finished reading Out of My Mind and will begin working on summative projects based on their personal reading goal along with having a choice from multiple reading skills the students have worked on while reading this novel to show their comprehension.

- Projects will be due October 6th

Critical Thinking:

*Students were given a question last week - "Does the education you receive affect your future?"

- They have had time to analyze why they think it does/doesn't and will continue working on their thinking on Monday

- On Tuesday, we will have a mini-debate to show their thinking. The students show whether they can back their thinking up with evidence from multiple articles that could sway them either way based on the schema they came to 5th grade with.

Writing:

*Our main focus will be descriptive writing this week. While working through creating our goals, the students will be writing descriptive pieces along with checking their 6 traits to ensure they are practicing their specific goal.

- Pet Peeves Descriptive Writing piece

*DLI Week 5 practice (Compound Subjects/Predicates) will be due on Tuesday - October 4th

- DLI Quick Write 5 will be due Wednesday, October 5th

Science:

*The student's Weather Test scores are in their progress monitoring documents

- Overall, the class did very well for their first science test! I was proud of everyone.

*Students will continue their Matter Unit with Mrs. Howard

Poetry:

*Students will be going through multiple genres of poetry including visual poetry, haikus, reverse poetry and many more. These are all innovative ways to create poetry using words that are found within our classroom environment.

*The kids will be learning these different forms of poetry starting this week and then will be given the choice to float through different stations to try to create their own poetry.
