*I will be going out to grab all the t-shirt party decorations this weekend - if your child could bring in their $2 by this Wednesday it would help me greatly! Thank you to all who have donated money to this party as every penny helps!

*Design Thinking Challenge: Special Olympics

Purpose: Specifically foster students' developing sense of empathy, and overall to learn about design thinking. Students will learn to immerse themselves in learning from experts.

Math:

Chapter 2: MULTIPLY WHOLE NUMBERS

Reading:

*The class took their first Vocabulary test last Wednesday and they all did well across the board! :) Lets keep it up! They already have their new unit in their Flocabulary classroom along with multiple activities to help them practice their new words. Their next test will be September 21st.

- Their scores will show in their progress monitoring document by this Tuesday

*We will continue reading Out of My Mind (this is their week 4 skill) and continue applying differentiated skills to practice along with the story.

- By the end of NEXT week, they should be completely done with their first novel in 5th grade! At that point, they will be completing a project to show their knowledge of what they learned fromOut of My Mind, along with showing the new skills they've learned within the last 5 weeks.

Writing:

*Our main focus will be descriptive writing this week. While working through creating our goals, the students will be writing descriptive pieces along with checking their 6 traits to ensure they are practicing their specific goal.

- Showing, Not Telling

- Describing popcorn using all our senses

- How to use a thesaurus properly to help us with our descriptions

*DLI Week 4 practice (Finding helping verbs/verb phrases) will be due NEXT Tuesday - September 20th

-Our first DLI Test scores are in their DLI: Google Classroom along with feedback and suggestions if they were needed.

Science:

*The students will be given a review on Monday for their weather test that will be on Friday. This can be found in their Weather: Google Classroom.

Poetry:

*Students will be going through multiple genres of poetry including visual poetry, haikus, reverse poetry and many more. These are all innovative ways to create poetry using words that are found within our classroom environment.

*The kids will be learning these different forms of poetry starting this week and then will be given the choice to float through different stations to try to create their own poetry.
